Tonight, Padres @ Nats was interrupted by a shooting outside the stadium. Players and fans were spooked and ultimately the game was suspended and fans sent home. The game was in the 6th inning with the home team trailing. They are going to pick up the game tomorrow before the scheduled game.
This seems like a very reasonable outcome, but I don’t see how it’s covered by the rules.
“Other emergencies” isn’t one of the “any of the following reasons” listed. Is there a general exception somewhere in the MLB rules that covers this?
Since the game had already reached the 6th inning, why wasn’t it simply called a complete game (as happened just a couple of weeks ago with Dodgers@Nationals)?
