Players as Umps

Due to a scheduling mixup, only one umpire was on hand for the Braves-Reds game of July 19, 1947.  Jocko Conlon was behind home, while the teams pow wowed and chose Cincinnati pitcher Bucky Walters and Boston platoon shortstop Dick Culler to work the bases. Can’t imagine such a thing would fly today. If no other umps were available, would they postpone the game?
