Official Scorer (Elias Sports) Rules this a Four Base Error…How the Official Scorer Decides on Balls Deflected over the Fence

Elias Sports Bureau is somewhat like the Supreme Court when it comers to final scoring decisions and official baseball statistics. I made the video to explain how official scorers decide a hit vs. error in a case like this and I thought the final outcome was home run for Solak. Thanks for the detailed and accurate update.

As of 8/12/2020, it appears that this play is still ruled a “4 base error”, though the video indicates it was a home run. The official scorer did, in fact, rule this a home run initially, but a couple of innings later, apparently in consultation with Elias Sports Bureau, it was ruled an error that allowed the batter runner to advance four bases. Nick Solak’s stats still lists him as having 0 HRs. Since it has been more than 24 hours the official scorer should have submitted his “final” report. Nick Solak, the Rangers (his club), Jo Adell, or the Angels (Adell’s club) may request that the Chief Baseball Officer review this play within 72 hours of the final report. I am not aware that a request for a review has been made.
