Fair Ball

SECTION 6. A fair ball is a legally batted ball that:

a. Settles on fair ground between home plate and first base or between home plate and third base;

b. Is on or over fair ground when bounding to the outfield past first or third base;

c. First falls on fair ground on or beyond first or third base;

d. While on or over fair ground, touches an umpire or player; or Note A fair fly must be judged according to the relative position of the ball and the foul line and not as to whether the fielder is on fair or foul ground at the time the ball is first touched.

e. Touches a base in fair territory unless previously touched by a fielder or runner while the ball was in foul territory.

     Note: If a batted ball hits the top of the fence while in fair territory and then bounces over the fence, it is a home run.

f. Passes out of the playing field in flight while over fair territory.
