Runner Interference Call Ends Rays Threat Against Pirates and Paul Skenes
The Pirates hosted the Rays on April 18, 2026. In the top of the second inning, the Rays had the bases loaded with no outs when Hunter Feducia, facing Paul Skenes, hit a ground ball to Pirates first baseman Spencer Horwitz. Richie Palacios, the runner on first, impeded Horwitz as he attempted to field the ball and was called out for interference by second base umpire Steven Jaschinski.
Ruleball Comments
- This was another classic runner interference call.
- Runners need to understand the RIGHT OF WAY rule. The fielder must not be impeded or interfered with in any way while attempting to make a play.
- It is the responsibility of the runner to LOCATE and avoid the fielder when he is attempting to make a play.
- Runners need to have good visual skills.
